Walking in the surroundings
Bed & Breakfast Mas del Rey is a great starting point for beautiful walks. 40 km from the house begins the national park of La Tinenca de Benifassa adjoining in Els Ports going to the north. From the various mountain villages are well signposted routes to walk. Short, long, light and heavy walks, everybody can choose whatever he wants. You have the most beautiful views, crazy rock formations and small sources and waterfalls with the best and brightest water. You regularly come across a variety of animals. Like springboks, vultures floating above you, and when you are lucky wild boars running away. On the coast, just south of Peñiscola is another national park , the Sierra de Irta.Indicated routes are available here, from one hour distance or more. The area has a variety with a steep coast with high cliffs and sandy and shell beaches.
It is an area where you can make a fine half day walk with beautiful views of the sea and delicious smells of all the herbs that grow there. You can also spend a full day with a visit to the castle-ruin of Magdalena de Pulpis.
The third recomending walking area is more inland, just 22 km away from the house, San Mateu. There are various walks. For example starting at 'La Ermita de Sant Mateu' you will encounter an old building with a nice little chapel. You have a nice, not too difficult walk and when you are back in time, you can enjoy the lunch in the excellent restaurant Farga at the point where you started.
