Moros y Cristianos
´Moros y Cristianos´ is a festival that is celebrated in many Spanish cities, on different dates. During the celebrations the struggle between Christians and Moors during the Reconquista (8th century to 15th century) is remembered (and performed) . The conquest by the Arabs and the reconquest by the Christians is represented in parades with lush costumes.
Christians are riding horses and wearing clothes adorned with leather and armor. The Moors wear Arab costumes with scimitars, riding camels or real elephants. Of course this spectacle is accompanied by fireworks and at the end the Christians win... In Peñíscola this festivity always takes place in September.
