Benicarló
The coastal city of Benicarló was originally a village of farmers rather than fishermen. You can see this by the location of the towncenter which is located a few hundred meters away from the sea. Over the years Benicarló has developed into a more modern city with beaches and a yacht harbour with restaurants and bars. The origin of agriculture however is still reflected in the gastronomic festival of Benicarló.
This Festival of Artichokes always takes place in January. In March, Benicarló celebrates Las Fallas. Of course these are less famous than those in Valencia, but still really worth a visit. The Ninots, enormous dolls, are impressive, and the daily Mascletás , extremely loud fireworks, can be heard in Mas del Rey!
